The term "Doula," from ancient Greek, means "someone who serves." A birth doula offers continuous support to mothers and partners during pregnancy, labor, and birth, providing evidence-based information and emotional support. Similarly, postpartum doulas assist families during the immediate months after birth.
My name is Marcia. Marcia means "warlike". Doula means "someone who serves". Those two words embody who I am and who I will be as your Certified Full Specturm Doula in the Charlotte Metro Area.
Black, Idigonous and other women of color have higher rates of pregnancy-related death compared to White women. Maternal and infant health disparities are symptoms of broader underlying social and economic inequities that are rooted in racism and discrimination. This does not mean that white women do not experience birth trauma from unnecessary medical intervention and lack of education. They do also!
